This month, our Law + ArtWorks group is hosting a discussion of the Doctrine of Fair Use.  Because it is a topic of interest to such a broad range of the arts community, they are setting aside their usual small group format, moving to a bigger room and creating an opportunity for broader learning from others experiences.  Here are the details:

Fair Use Workshop

What is Fair Use?

  • Can I use a picture/song/article in my work, or do I have to ask permission?
  • If we aren’t making money, is that Fair Use?
  • What is in the public domain?
  • Someone is using my work! Isn’t that just stealing? When would that be fair use?
  • Is fair use just a copyright loophole?

In honor of Fair Use Week 2016, join local lawyers from Triangle ArtWorks “Law + ArtWorks” Group for a discussion of fair use. Fair use is a legal doctrine that *sometimes* allows for copyrighted works to be used by others without a license and without legal liability. Bring your questions and your experiences, as the lawyers will lead an open discussion on the most recent state of the law, as well as how the law affects your work.

Who should attend:

Anyone who does creative work, or who works with the creative works of others, will at some point run into a situation that will require some knowledge of fair use. This will be a great opportunity to have your legal questions discussed and learn from others’ experiences.

Where and When:

February 25, 2016
6 – 8 p.m.
RTP Frontier, The Classroom Conference room.
